The House

Image
Here's a picture of our R.House house (sorry) showing: 30 450W solar panels facing almost due south on a 35 deg roof Mitsubishi Ecodan 8.5kW Air Source Heat Pump Tesla Powerwall 3 I calculated the heat loss of the floor, ceiling and walls to be under 1.8kW when +22 inside and -5 outside which I think is excellent. While not Passivhaus standard, I think that's pretty good. The Air Permeability test result is 1.73 m^3 (h.m^2) @ 50Pa against a design target of 3.0. 3.0 is a good figure and 1.73 is excellent.

This is what our solar production looks like with a 3kW export allowance. It's a screen shot from the Tesla app and you can see: blue - going to the house green - going to recharge the Powerwall 3 grey - coming from solar You can clearly see that the solar generation is being restricted by the amount of energy that can be sent back to the grid. We saw the maximum energy generation at about 8am when a little over 3kW of solar was going to the Powerwall 3 (green) and about 2kW was going to the grid. A total solar generation of a little over 5kW.

Tick!

We're in and the solar/PV system is up and running. We moved in on Monday 1st June and took a meter reading 3462. We are signing up to Octopus Energy and will organise our Smart Export Guarantee tariff as soon as possible. One disappointment is that our DNO has limited our export rate to 3kW. We made a G99 application and got less than we would with a G98! Looking at the PowerWall3 stats, I think the system was setup on 13th May. For the rest of May, the house power was: 49% solar 48% PowerWall3 3% Grid and the PowerWall3 has been charging from the solar panels.  As I write, there's heavy grey cloud and rain showers but we're still generating at 1.2kW. We left the front door open overnight(!) and the ASHP has drained the PowerWall3 keeping the house warm. However, the PowerWall3 is recharging so even in this weather we should have a full battery by this evening. As today, the 4th is the official start of our Octopus Energy contract I took another meter reading and in the 3...
